The American Legion community is made up of several groups that work together to serve veterans, families, and our community. Here’s how to know which one is right for you:

If you’re a U.S. military veteran or currently serving, you can join as a Legionnaire. Members share a bond of service and continue their mission by supporting fellow veterans and their community.

American Legionnaire

If your parent, grandparent, or guardian is a veteran, you can join the Sons of the American Legion. This group honors family military service through volunteer work and community projects.

Sons: American Legion

If you’re the spouse, parent, sibling, or relative of a veteran, you can join the Auxiliary. Members support veterans, military families, and community initiatives alongside the Legion.

American Legion Auxiliary

If you’re already part of the Legion, Auxiliary, or Sons — and you love motorcycles — you can join the Riders. They support veterans and raise awareness through rides, events, and fundraisers.

    My Uncle Ralph, a WWII vet, introduced me to the American Legion at Post 134, Paramount, CA, where I signed up. He was very involved with the American Legion. I wanted to surround myself with like-minded people and carry on the tradition of veterans serving veterans.

    I joined the American Legion to connect with other Vets and to learn more about other branches, as well as form friendships and bonds with other people that I consider Heroes

    I walked in one day, and a gentleman named Gene Vinlove, a proud Son of the Legion, asked if I wanted to join. I told him I was interested. Gene and I sat down and talked for a while, and he sold me on the family that I was about to become part of.
